Pave settings are encrusted with very small diamonds along the band to give the appearance of a solid diamond surface. Instead of a metal band, the small diamonds leading up to the crown in a pave setting create a beautiful design that enhances the appearance of the center diamond. These settings may go all the way around the band ("full pave") or, more commonly, stop halfway ("half pave"). In a full pave ring, the pave diamonds would be visible even from the open palm of your hand.
